Event Chat Moderators
Sometimes you need a few helpful eyes to moderate your event chat and Q&A live. A new role called 'Chat Moderator' can be granted to attendees or folks on your team who need to delete or pin messages and accept questions in real-time on the front end during a live event but shouldn't have access to the dashboard and event settings.
Chat Moderators are event attendees assigned within the event dashboard on a per-stage or channel basis.
Once assigned, they will have access to:
Delete messages & questions
Pin messages & questions to the top of the chat and Q&A tab
Accept and post questions from Q&A
Mark questions from Q&A as 'Answered'
Enable moderator-only mode
Slow down the chat
Ban disruptive members from the stage/channel chat thread
Here is a video of how to assign Chat Moderators for livestream events, and how they delete or pin messages. The same steps can be followed to assign Chat Moderators in Hybrid events.
To learn more about the different levels of access to moderate channels and chats, and how to pin or delete messages, check out this resource.
Users who have been added as Event Collaborators in the 'Permissions' tab (at all levels) within the event dashboard will automatically have all the chat moderator capabilities.
Community Channel Chat Moderators
Chat Moderators can also be granted access to Community-level Channels to delete or pin messages & ban disruptive members in real-time on the front end of the community.
Admins can assign Chat Moderators within the dashboard in the specific Channel's editing page. They do not need to be a dashboard admin to be added but must be a member of the community.
Once assigned, they will have access moderate ONLY from the channel chat thread on the front end of the Channel.
They can pin or delete messages by selecting the three-dot icon in the upper right and either 'Pin to Top' or 'Delete' the message. Deleting messages cannot be reversed and only one message can be pinned at a time.
Note: If a Channel is space restricted, the Chat Moderator must be added to the space to access the Channel on the front end to make edits. Learn more about managing & moderating Channels' access here.
If a member is very disruptive they can also bulk-delete all messages from this member, or ban them from posting in that channel for 7 days. Follow the steps in this guide to learn how to bulk delete and ban members from posting in Channel chat threads.
Auto-Moderation Tools & Settings
Gradual has deployed several native moderation features that automatically moderate posts and comments so they are appropriate and work to deter spamming:
Basic profanity filter moderation will return an error to the user if their text contains profanity
Gradual is currently using a standard available library of profane terms in English.
If you have words or phrases that need to be added to or excluded from the filter parameter, please see below in 'System Moderation Settings'.
Basic content filter moderation will return an error to the user if the text contains blanks or spaces only
Rate limits moderation will return an error to the user if they submit a duplicated post in quick succession
Filter moderation will block all ASCII text and return an error to the user
Admins to the dashboard are exempt from this auto-moderation as they are assumed trusted users.
System Moderation Settings
You can control profanity filtering across the entire platform from within Settings โ System Settings. Changes made here will effect both the Forum and chat messages within events.
You can add words to the auto-moderated list to be blocked automatically, or add words as exceptions, that would be excluded from the profanity filter and will not be moderated.
