Custom SMTP for Email

How to enable custom SMTP servers for your community.

Updated this week

Gradual supports the use of custom SMTP servers for communities that require more control over their email delivery. If you'd like to set up your own SMTP server, please contact our support team at [email protected], and we’ll work with our engineering team to get it configured for your community.

Why Use a Custom SMTP Server?

Using your own SMTP server provides several benefits:

  • Improved Email Deliverability: Send emails directly from your trusted infrastructure to reduce spam filtering.

  • Enhanced Sender Reputation and IP Management: Control how your emails are sent and build a stronger reputation with mail providers.

  • Enhanced Security and Privacy: Keep email credentials and delivery routes entirely within your systems.

Required Information

To set up a custom SMTP server, please provide the following details to the Gradual team:

  • SMTP Server URL

  • Authentication Token

  • Username and Password

  • Email Domain used for sending emails

Note: The email domain you provide will be hardcoded and must match the domain configured in your SMTP server.

Important Considerations

Please be aware of the following changes once a custom SMTP server is enabled:

  • Admin emails are restricted to the domain you provide. There is no additional domain authorization process.

  • Email tracking is disabled. This includes open and click tracking functionality.

  • Gradual support must make all configuration changes. At this time, SMTP settings are not self-serve.

Getting Started

To begin the process, email [email protected] with the required SMTP details listed above. Our support team will coordinate with our engineers to complete the setup.
